The Joyful Journey
By David Jernigan of Hansa Center for Optimum Health
A friend recently wrote me in frustration over his struggle with a chronic illness, he said, "The Buddha's first Noble Truth says - That there is suffering in life, is indeed true.” He went on to say, “The Buddha's second Noble Truth is that the cause of suffering is craving for things to be other than the way they are.” My friend commented, “All of which I believe is indeed true. That's where the rubber meets the road for me. I am not yet the Buddha!" Somewhat in jest, I replied, "Dr. David Jernigan's first noble truth says, the journey through life is full of signposts; however, you must be a good sign-reader to fully appreciate where the signs are attempting to guide you.'" My friend thought this was actually pretty profound. It is inspired, I told him, from my own journey, which is continually revealing itself to me as well. As we journey through life it seems that we often either missed reading the original signpost, or chose to ignore the signpost and take a detour that may lead to illness or unhappiness. The subsequent journey is filled with heartache (symptoms) as we wander around suffering as we realize we took a wrong turn...but where ...and can we find the on-ramp to an easier path? My challenge, as a doctor, is to facilitate your journey by restoring optimum integrity of the body, mind, and spirit through thoughtfully applied treatments and by holding a light to your path through knowledge so that you may move forward with wisdom and so that you may correctly read the signs in the future. The reality is that the more years that have passed since the original signs were missed the less likely you will be able to find them again and get back on track. So stop struggling with the why's of your reality. The forward progress of health and healing will be found only by focusing on restoring the integrity of your body, your mind, and your spirit in this moment. Set your intentions on what being truly healthy would look and feel like. Fuel these intentions with the strongest energy of emotion and feelings you can muster concerning actually having your desires. (T+E+A=M) Walk forward in the complete expectation that you will have them at the perfect timing that only Divine Synchronicity can achieve. If your forward progress is hindered by the missed signposts and subsequent less-than-joyful events of the past, then do as I said in my book, Everyday Miracles by God's Design: "Meditate and visualize yourself placing all the old dramas of your signs, symptoms and traumas in a huge box that has a heavy lid that no one else can lift and nothing you put in the box can get out. Continue to seek out all the traumatic audio and visual recordings from your journey until you cannot find any more. You may want to make imaginary DVD's and/or CD's of the traumas and suffering of your past journey so that it is easier to visualize placing them in your box. Put any lab tests with their doom and gloom in the box. Some difficult events may be easier to place in the box if you symbolize them as some object that can be placed more easily in your box. Now, see your box being carried away by the Divine, completely enveloped by the light and love of God. You are now free to move forward on your journey, unencumbered by the drama of your hardships. |
